S/P2 LAUNCHES NEW RESUME BUILDING COURSE FOR CAREER TECH STUDENTS

Goal is to combat worker shortage and see more students enter industry.

OVERLAND PARK, KAN. – S/P2 (www.sp2.org)  has released a new course for career technical students across North America: “Land That Job:  Building a Resume.” This online course provides best practices for resume writing, and provides an interactive process allowing students to build and download their own resume.

“We have been excited about launching this course for some time,” said Kyle Holt, President of S/P2. “Instructors asked for a course that explained the process to their students, but also helped them create a resume. We’re so proud to be providing this tool to the schools and the instructors.  And at the end of the course, the student has a professional resume that can help him or her land that interview.  That’s powerful.”

The “Land That Job:  Building a Resume” course gives career technical students tips on ways to make their resumes stand out, avoid making mistakes that can cost them an interview, and provides examples of good and bad resumes to review.  Then the course provides an online, interactive process to build their resume, including work experience, education, certifications, relevant job skills, volunteer experience, and awards received. At the end, the student can download and print out their resume to be used in their job search.

Students also specify what segments of the industry they are interested in working in, geographic locations they are willing to work or move to, and whether they are looking for full-time, part-time, or internship/apprenticeship opportunities. S/P2 will be using this information to help match students with businesses looking for new hires from the career technical programs at the high school and post-secondary level.

“Imagine a student in Kansas who has always wanted to live in California. She doesn’t know which businesses would be interested in hiring her in California, but soon we’ll be able to help make that match,” said Holt. “This is the first step, with more coming in the next couple of months. At S/P2, our commitment to helping combat the skilled workers shortage is very real. Together we can combat the shortage if we all work together to help these students enter and remain in their industry of choice, giving them the tools to build a true career path.”

 

The resume writing course is provided at no charge to career technical schools that have a current S/P2 subscription.
